    May, 2017 Newsletter

Hello, from Iota Nu at Large!

Your Board of Directors met in May to discuss lots of exciting projects and induction ceremonies for Summer and Fall, 2017!  We hope you will be a part of it!

We are looking for volunteers who may be interested in serving in our newly established Leadership Intern role.  This person could be a student, faculty, or other member who is interested in learning about a leadership position in the Iota Nu at Large Chapter of STTI.  If this is you, please let us know right away and we will provide more information! Please email Carol Rizer at this address: crizer@uttyler.edu, or call/text (903) 681-4372.

We also have mentorships available for membership volunteers interested in serving in future roles on the Board of Directors.  If you would like to hone your leadership skills, investigate future service positions on the Board, please contact Dr. Rizer at the above links.  We would love to have you join us!!

Both The University of Texas at Tyler and Texas A&M Commerce held induction ceremonies this Spring.  We welcome all new Iota Nu at Large members!!

A suitcase drive supporting CASA for kids was conducted and was very successful!  Thanks to everyone who donated a suitcase for a child in need.  The kids of the East Texas foster system truly appreciate having something besides a garbage bag to move/store their belongings in.  This project was our spring service project for Iota Nu at Large!

During the month of April at The University of Texas at Tyler library, a special poster and information table was set up for Community Health Awareness Week.  Our UT Tyler library liaison, Suzanne Abbey, collaborated with us to provide particular titles and links to supplement the content of the presentation.  Special thanks to Dr. Colleen Marzilli who was most instrumental in providing this table for more information on community health, nursing as a career, and how to join the Iota Nu at Large chapter.

Five Scholarships Awarded!!!!  We awarded the top GPA student from each school in the UG programs and the top student in the MSN program.  We also awarded a significant research scholarship to Tracy Nash, a PhD student at UT Tyler.  Congratulations to all winners!

Many thanks to Dr. Marcie Lusk and Dr. Angie McInnis who were our representatives for Orr Elementary Career Day. Date: May 19, 2017.  They provided three 45-50 minute sessions and brought ‘stuff’ that nurses use to show the second graders and the students LOVED the sessions!  We appreciate Priscilla Jackson at Orr Elementary who invited our Iota Nu at Large chapter to participate again this year.

A Spring induction ceremony is scheduled for April 11, 2017 at 6:00pm at The University of Texas at Tyler UC Theater. Please save the date for this!  We will also have a suitcase drive supporting CASA for kids on this same night.  So, if you are an inductee, a friend or relative of an inductee, or just want to come join us that evening, please consider bringing a new or gently used suitcase (any size, but no backpacks are needed).  The kids of the East Texas foster system will really appreciate having something besides a garbage bag to move/store their belongings in.  This will be our spring service project for Iota Nu at Large!

A suitcase drive is currently underway to collect new or gently used suitcases (no backpacks, please) for the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Kids of East Texas.  These suitcases will provide a way for kids in foster care to transport their belongings when they need to move.  Please bring your contribution to the Braithwaite Nursing building on the UT Tyler campus, or contact Carol Rizer at (903) 681-4372, crizer@uttyler.edu for more information.
